Shard boxes are a collection of antique porcelain pieces incorporated into boxes and other objects. The history of shard boxes is tied to the Chinese Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), when it was illegal to own antique porcelain. Many collectors broke their porcelain pieces and threw them away. After the revolution the store owners collected the broken pieces and tried to bring them back to life by created tin & metal curio boxes flanked with various sized porcelain shards.
